Moral values are a choice, a wise choice! Nobody is born a murderer, rapist, thief, or other criminal. We all make moral choices every day. All of us are born to be immoral. Yes, I said all of us. Our particular immorality may be a little different from someone else's, but none of us are morally perfect. Everyone has sinned in some way, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"1 You might say that your moral lapse is no-where near as bad as someone else's, however, God does not exactly see it that way, "For he who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder." If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker."2 Fortunately for us, God has provided a way of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ for all our moral failings. If you receive the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart in prayer, God will forgive you of all your immorality, and give you a new life in him. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."3 You must receive Jesus Christ into your heart. You can do this by praying what is referred to as the sinner's prayer. "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"4 When you receive the LORD into your heart, you are born again, "For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God."5
If you have never prayed the sinner's prayer, would you like to pause for a moment, and do that right now? God will hear your every word. Perhaps you would like to pray this simple prayer: 'Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die for my immorality and sins. Please forgive me for all my sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Please change me as I repent (turn-from) the sin and immorality in my life. I want to live for you, and serve you all the rest of my life, in the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior, Amen.'
If you have just prayed the sinner's prayer faithfully, you are now a Christian, it's as simple as that. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,"6 Now that you have become a Christian, it is very important that you grow in your new relationship with God. You will want to purchase a Holy Bible and start reading the New Testament. The Bible makes it clear that you can be confident that if you receive Jesus Christ into your heart in prayer, you are born again. "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."7
Pray that God will reveal to you his moral absolutes from the Bible. Pray for God to enable you live a righteous Christian life that is pleasing and obedient to him. You will also want to start attending a good Christian church that teaches the Word of God truthfully and faithfully, one that teaches Biblical moral values and the Christian belief. Pray, and the Lord Jesus will lead you to a good church.
